The Pickering Dragon Boat Club (pdbc) Winter Program is designed to prepare each member for optimal dragon boat performance.
This program will emphasize several pillars of performance development including: technique, strength, flexibility, endurance and team building.
This program is designed to simultaneously act as a means for existing athletes and crews to maximize off-season improvement, and to provide the optimal setting to introduce new members to the sport.
The 2009 winter training program has been designed with the following goals:
The pdbc Winter Training program features 3 components:
The Yoga Advantage program is administered by P3Yoga director Suzanne Hennig and features customized yoga programming designed specifically to prepare and enhance muscles used for dragon boat racing. These sessions have been extremely well-received by pdbc athletes during the past 2 seasons and have been a vital component of success at both the 2007 World Championships in Australia and 2008 World Club Championships in Malaysia.
Athletes will participate in 7 weekly 1-hour yoga sessions administered by Suzanne. Athletes will have the option of selecting 1 of 3 weekly classes that are offered (you'll make your selection in the registration form below). Athletes may only attend their selected session (i.e. you attend on the same day and time each week) as all sessions will reach registration capacity.
First sessions: January 13/15
Last sessions: February 24/26
Note: Yoga sessions have concluded for 2009, and registration for yoga is no longer listed in the registration options below. The registration fee has been reduced accordingly, now only $126 (which includes GST).

These sessions will emphasize technical development, endurance and team building. This program will feature very low coach to athlete ratios and an exclusive location that is perfect for both in-water and technical instruction.
Sundays
First session: Feb. 22
Last session: Apr 19
Note: There is no Pool Paddling session on Apr. 12 (Easter)
